"Cocroach's in bathroom. Far from good places to eat. The continental bereakfast was horrible - it would have cost only a couple of hundred dollars to buy a couple of toasters for the temporary breakfast. No variety - same every day."

"Hotel was nice but there was mold in the shower up high. Also the walls seemed thin because I could hear the neighbors conversation when they got in late. Staff was helpful. We asked about breakfast via telephone and they told us it was in the lobby after 6a.m. It was in the restaurant next door. There was no brochure in our room about the hotel and when I inquired they told me it was being updated."

"Have been to this hotel a few years ago. Most of the employees are still there. The free van to the water tower during the day makes this hotel more accessable and cheaper to get around in downtown Chicago."

"Closest hotle to Shedds, Adler and Feild Museum. Staff was great. Pool was fantastic. I would choose this hotel over the Sheraton on my next visit. Spent one night at the Sheraton, it was awful, no hot water, pool closed early. At the Essex the only thing that could have been better was if internet was free. No matter where you stay, Chicago requires a lot of walking!"

"there was an issue with parking. i was billed $21.00 for the night (24 hours), but then was hit for an additional $13.oo to get my car out. have stayed there is the past, and never had this happen, so am wondering why the change of policy?"

"YOU HAVE TO BASE THE QUALITY AND SERVICE OF THE HOTEL, BASED ON THE AREA THAT YOU ARE IN AND THE PRICING OF THE NEAR BY ACCOMINDATIONS. IT WAS ON THE END OF THE SOUTH LOOP DISTRICT, BUT THE HOTEL DID SUPPLY FREE SHUTTLE SERVICE TO AND FROM THE MAJOR SECTION OF THE SOUTH LOOP, SHOPPING, UP SCALE RESTAURANTS ETC. THE BAR STAFF IS SO SO, BUT THE FRONT DESK, BELL HOPS ETC ARE GREAT. IT IS NEXT DOOR TO THE HILTON TOWERS, WHICH HAS A NICER / BUT MORE EXPENSIVE BAR. IT IS WALKING DISTANCE TO SOLDIERS FEILD AND AQUARIUM, AND MUSEUMS ( CAN SEE FROM THE LOBBY ) FOR THE PRICE IT IS A GOOD DEAL. BUT IF YOU LOOKING FOR A HILTON, IT IS NOT."
