Overview
Located on a private beach and about a 10-minute drive from Myrtle Beach International Airport (MYR), Springmaid Beach Resort and Conference Center is popular with business and vacation travellers who require a beach-front hotel with on-site dining near the airport.
This hotel has 500 air-conditioned guest rooms and suites in three buildings, each offering a balcony, free Wi-Fi, cable TV, a coffeemaker, a full-sized fridge, a microwave, a safe, a desk, an iron and ironing board, a hair dryer and an iPod docking station. One-, two- and three-bedroom suites are also available, as are wheelchair-accessible rooms. Please note that the Live Oak building does not have an elevator.
Hotel amenities include six pools, two lazy rivers, a pool bar, mini-golf, a fishing pier, a tackle and bait shop, a fitness centre, guest laundry, meeting/conference space, a business centre, a gift shop, concierge services, vending machines and free patrolled parking. Pets are not permitted. The laundry facilities are in the hotel's Palmetto building. Wi-Fi is available free around the resort.
On-site dining is offered at Marlin's Buffet, which serves breakfast daily, and BARnacles on the Pier, which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner daily.
Myrtle Beach State Park is located about an 8-minute walk southwest of the hotel, while Broadway at the Beach is roughly a 13-minute drive northeast. Family Kingdom Amusement Park is a 6-minute drive northeast along the coast and The Myrtle Beach Convention Center can be found 10 minutes away by car. Many guests were pleased with the level of customer service they received, and characterized the staff as friendly, accommodating and efficient.
The hotel's location was praised by numerous reviewers, who found it to be close to the beach, restaurants, attractions, shopping and Murrell's Inlet. One guest noted, "Everything you could possibly need or want is within walking distance".
Several lodgers enjoyed the hotel's accommodations. They described their rooms as clean, spacious, quiet and fashionable, with great ocean views and comfortable beds and pillows. It should be noted, however, that a few reviewers had complaints about their rooms (see below).
The Bad
While the majority of reviews consulted for this analysis were positive, there were a few common complaints that some rooms were too small and had not been thoroughly cleaned.
A few guests were also disappointed there was no hot tub or free breakfast.
