Georgia, a republic of the former Soviet-Union, is still plagued by problems with its Russian neighbor and secession of two areas: Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
Of interest to the visitor are Tbilisi, the capital, its Black Sea coastal resorts, and the Lesser and Greater Caucasian Mountain Ranges.
Tbilisi, a city of more than a million, was destroyed many times by the warring powers of the region: Persians, Russians, Byzantines, Arabs and Turks. Today it has many museums and numerous historic landmarks.
Bat'umi is the major beach resort on the Black Sea.
Bakuriani in the Lesser and Gudau`ri in the Greater Caucasians are highly attractive ski areas. |
