The Province of Barcelona is dwarfed by its capital, the City of Barcelona. However, the Province does have some other attractions:
Costa de Barcelona-Maresme is a 30 mile strip of Coastline north-east of Barcelona from Montgat to Malgrat de Mar. It has some forty high-quality beaches as well as as venues for cultural events. Mataró is the largest city and capital of Maresme and the venue of many cultural events. Calella, Pineda de Mar and Arenys de Mar are some of the larger resort towns.
The Costa de Garraf is south-west of Barcelona. Its major resort, Sitges, was the headquarters of successive schools of artists and writers.
Inland, the Alt Penedès Region is the largest wine producing area for Cava, the world-famous sparkling wine. Way up north, in Berguedà , there are wonderfully scenic mountain landscapes in the foothills of the Pyrenees.
Full details on the various regions of Barcelona Province are found below under Tourist Information.
