ANGLING IN THE U.S.
It's hard to believe that
in the US there are an estimated 44 million anglers (people who fish). This reflects
a drop in the number people of who fish (since recreation time sparse these days
and people have many competing options). Still, that doesn't mean the sport isn't
popular, more people fish than those who play tennis and golf combined. The states
are with the greatest fishing activity are California, Florida and Texas. The
sport is not to be taken lightly; its economic impact is $116 billion (yes, that's
billion)! Interestingly, according to the American Sportfishing Association, "One
third of all anglers are women. Women are slightly better represented in saltwater
than freshwater. The highest proportion of women anglers are found in the south
central and northern plains regions."
