Sometimes getting away means
going to a nice hotel or Bed & Breakfast to rest, while other times you way want
something that will actually get your adrenaline going.
For those of you who are
interested in an active vacation, opportunities abound. You can take short or
long hikes (which you can combine with camping). Some of you may choose an alternative
mode of transportation, such as a bicycle, motorcycle, or perhaps even horseback
or other animals such as llamas.
The true adventurers among
you may opt to go rock climbing, rappel down a cliff or go under/above ground
(i.e. go scuba or sky diving).

If you enjoy spending time in the great outdoors and hiking, consider a hike on
The Appalachian National Scenic Trail, a footpath that stretches 2,167 miles across
10th Mountain Division Hut System
During World War II the U.S. Army's 10th Mountain Division trained in the rugged
Colorado high country. Today, the area where the soldiers once trained is a peaceful
haven for skiers, which includes 350 miles of trails and a system of huts.
If a cycling appeals to you, the Adventure Cycling Association is the place to
find out about bike routes, maps, tours and much more.
For those who want a less strenuous ride, a motorcycle trip might be just the
ticket. A visit to this Web site will enable you to read the reports of over 300
motorcycle trips across the world.
If your vacation includes plans for scuba diving, 3Routes, is a site you won't
want to miss. Their aim is to "list EVERY resort, live-aboard and dive charter
on the planet." As of December 1st, 2002, the site had information on 5,417 destinations.
If you enjoy water, but don't necessarily enjoy being underwater, white water
rafting offers a thrill and keeps you topside. On this site you'll find information
about white water rafting in 12 different states as well as Chile and New Zealand.
If you skydive and want to incorporate some jumps into your vacation, this site
will let you search for places you can skydive in the U.S., Canada, Australia
and Great Britain.
Ballooning offers a unique way to view the landscape. Read articles about ballooning,
locate ballooning events and find links to a variety of ballooning resources.
This site has information on 4473 climbing areas in 92 countries and all 50 states
with over 1500 links to other rock climbing site.
