Introduction
The tourist destinations in the Trier Region are Trier, the Moselle Valley and the Eifel Mountain Range.

Gorgeous scenery, superb wines, castles and fortresses make the Moselle Valley a favorite tourist destination.

By far, the major product of the Moselle wine-growing region is the Riesling white wine. The vineyards may readily be visited via a number of "Weinstraßen" passing through these areas: the 150mile long Moselweinstraße from the French border to Koblenz, the Elbing Route between Igel and Nittel and the Ruwer-Riesling-Weinstraße near Trier.

There are numerous beautiful castles surrounded by these vineyards such as Castle Lieser in the Berncastel-Wittlich district.

Moselsteig a 200 mile hiking trail along the Moselle river, officially opens in April 2014.

The Eifel is a mountain range north of the Moselle river and east of the Rhine which extends east into the neighboring Koblenz Region and north into Rheinland-Westfalen. It is classified as "Mittelgebirge," a category that covers mountain peaks between 500 and 1500 feet. This area of volcanic origin offers manificent views and ample opportunities for bicycling and hiking, Visit numerous picturesque towns with striking examples of medieval architecture along with ruins of castles and fortresses.

Gerolstein in the Vulkaneifel District, famous for its mineral water, first made its debut in 1115 as the home of Castle Löwenburg. Throughout history it was the scene of much strife and disasters and, as a railroad junction, 80% destroyed in World War II. Local attractions are the ruins of the Löwenburg, the town fortifications, and castles Burg Lissingen and nearby Kasselburg.

Nationalpark Eifel, features fantastic views of lakes, forests, unique animal life and a wilderness trail.
