Introduction
The Fichtel Mountains (Fichtelgebirge) are a highly popular tourist destination for biking and hiking in the summer and skiing and sledding in the winter. The mountain range extends from Hof in Upper Franconia south to Weiden in Upper Palatinate. The area is also known for its extensive glassware, ceramics and porcelain production. The town of Selb is the home of world-famous Rosenthal porcelain.

Another popular tourist destination is the triangle formed by Bamberg, Bayreuth and Nuremberg, known as Franconian Switzerland (Fränkische Schweiz). The descriptions of the towns shown on the
map of the area are, unfortunnately, only in German.

Bayreuth and Bamberg have both great musical traditions. Bayreuth, in particular, is known as the "Festspielstadt," being the site of the world-famous Wagner Festival. Bamberg's Old City is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
