The Good
The majority of the reviews sourced for this analysis were positive, with much praise going to the hotel's location, staff and rooms.

Many guests praised the hotel's location, describing it as central, and close to restaurants, shopping, Grand Central Station, MOMA and the Empire State Building. One patron noted, "We've been to NYC a few times, and location was spot on, walking distance to most of the sights in midtown".

The hotel's staff were the source of numerous compliments by reviewers, who characterized them as accommodating, professional and helpful with directions, suggestions and show tickets. One guest remarked, "The staff bent over backwards.. we arrived at 6.30 am and our room was already ready!!!!.. a late check out.. no problem!!! and they didn't even charge us.. thats customer service!!".

Several lodgers were pleased with their accommodations at the hotel. They described their rooms as clean, spacious, beautiful, modern, quiet and well equipped, with comfortable beds and pillows and great views of the Chrysler Building. A few travellers had complaints about their rooms, however (see below).

The Bad
While the majority of reviews consulted for this analysis were positive, there were a few common complaints about the added costs and the rooms.

A few lodgers were disappointed with the added costs they incurred during their stay. They found the parking and Wi-Fi fees to be very expensive, and felt free Wi-Fi should have been included in the room rates.

Although the majority of reviewers praised their clean and spacious rooms, a few patrons had complaints. They reported noise transfer from guests in adjacent rooms and in rooms near the hotel's rooftop bar, as well as no cutlery or plates in rooms with a kitchenette.

Affordable awesomeness in a fabulous NYC neighbourhood!
"We got a 1-bedroom suite with 2-queen sized beds through an online deal. The rooms were huge! So big in fact, the living room looked like it needed more furniture/decoration to fill it in! I'm so happy we chose the Affinia Shelburne because the hotel and staff was great and the location was excellent! The only drawback for me was no bathtub in the washroom, just a large shower, which isn't as soothing after a long day of walking. That being said, I definitely plan to stay here next time I'm in NYC."

Here’s an escape from the City that’s well worth looking into. Or out from. Take a look at the new Affinia Shelburne (formerly the Shelburne Murray Hill). It’s still Murray Hill, one of the coolest and most convenient of Manhattan neighborhoods. But now it’s brighter, bolder, more in tune—thoroughly renovated and ready to dazzle.

With 323 brand new guest rooms and suites, the Affinia Shelburne's unique design offers travelers a place to connect with friends, family or colleagues. Rooms feature eclectic décor, flat-screens and giant mirrors. Sleek kitchenettes or minibars and bright-new, bathrooms. Looking for a view that could inspire dreams of Empire? Check out our select group of Terrace Suites.

At street level, Rare Bar & Grill serves up one of the best burgers you’ve ever tasted. In fact, they kind of started the whole Nouvelle Burger Renaissance or whatever you want to call it (Just ask a local.). Oh, and they do room service too.

Rumor has it that Fred Astaire loved to play the rooftop miniature golf course back in the day. Today, it’s our rooftop lounge, Rare View, with bar beds, private party space, your favorite adult beverages, and did we mention the views? Like you’re on a chessboard between two queens: the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building (Sorry, the mini-golf is long gone.).
