"Areas for improvement - When I called the hotel the day before my check in date to confirm my reservation, they couldn't find it. I had to call someone at freehotelsearch.com and they weren't helpful either. Instead of offering to transfer me to Saber, I had to call them directly. The Saber rep contacted the hotel and then told me that my reservation had been found. So I called the hotel to check again. I had asked one of the internal reservations rep to call me back, but she never did. Since my credit card had already been charged, I was rather disturbed and stressed by this incident. Other weak areas - (1) I requested a goldfish (and confirmed with the front desk agent that they were still available) and a yoga basket prior to going out to dinner. When I returned, I saw that only the yoga basket had arrived. I didn't bother calling for the goldfish, since it was late (10:30pm). No explanation was provided, why I didn't get the goldfish. Why offer something, if you can't deliver it. (2) The next morning, I discovered that I left my hairbrush at home. I called housekeeping, and no one picked up after 20 rings, so I called the front desk. She said that they only had combs available, but offered to have the bellhop run out and buy me a brush. I said the comb would suffice, but by the time the comb arrived, I had already dried my hair. Positives - Otherwise, I found the hotel to be well appointed. The decor was lovely. I enjoyed the Aveda amenities. The yoga mat allowed me to strech and relax before retiring to bed. They were able to grant me my room preference of double beds. I received my wake up call on time. Even though the Hotel Monaco didn't "exceed" my expectations (I am a tough critic, since I used to work for the Ritz~Carlton), I will look for and compare other Monaco/Kimpton hotels in my future travels."
