Jennifer from Spanish Fort, AL US rated Sheraton Birmingham 8 out of 10 on January 17, 2013
"Aside from breakfast, the food was generally not what I would consider even edible, and certainly not of normal professional quality. During this stay I was unable to eat "out" and was dependent on the hotel for my meals. It was a bit disappointing to be charged truly outlandishly for meals I could not eat. That being said, the breakfast was quite good, though again terribly overpriced. The restaurants were attractive and their staff was friendly and helpful--however, the staff did not appear to have had any professional restaurant staff training--they clearly meant well, but were not professionally attentive. There were flies buzzing around my table occasionally. At the Atrium cafe, the chef's nightly special arrived at my table on an unheated plate, the food like warm, the vegetables gelatenous & tasteless, the "dumplings were similarly gelatenous and if I had not been told they were dumplings, I would not have been able to guess what they were. As I was uncomfortable in the restaurant, I took the remainder of my meals in my room, where I was charged 5 to 6 times what the food was worth. I was also quite taken aback at the incredible charges for a few minutes of long distance phonecall. The kind of charges I received for very simple "extras" like talking and eating gave me the general feeling that the hotel did not want their guests to use the phone or room service."

"For the price that I paid per night, I would have expected to have a bathroom floor that was clean and didn't have dirt in the grout lines and I would have expected to at least have a shower curtain liner without mildew on it. The only restaurants within walking distance of this hotel are the sports bar downstairs where every item starts at $10.95 or the hotel restaurant that was way overpriced or the Subway Restaurant right outside the doors. The only convenient thing about this hotel was that it is directly across from the convention center."
